Whether it’s Mother's Day or Daughter’s Day, sometimes you don’t need a special occasion to celebrate the bond you both share. Our mothers do so much for us. They comfort us when we are sad, ensure we are well-fed and offer the kind of support no one else can. Mothers and daughters can cherish each other’s company each day, without it having to be a special occasion. And is there a better way to do it than indulging in wellness activities together? Here are some exercises both of you can indulge in.
1. Yoga
There’s no denying that yoga remains one of the most appropriate exercises across all age groups. It includes breathing techniques, meditation, and positions that promote relaxation and stress reduction. Yoga is said to have numerous health benefits for both mental and physical well-being. It improves balance, strength, focus, and can also double up as a form of meditation. Practising yoga together not only sets a routine for both of you but can also lead to a sense of accountability, while helping you form a closer bond.
2. Zumba
Zumba is all about dancing your way to better health. It's no surprise that it's a popular workout because of the music and beats. Zumba has three different intensity levels, with classes alternating between low, medium, and high intensity. Start with modest beats and movements and gradually increase the speed until you reach your desired level of comfort. Some health benefits include improved cardiovascular fitness, enhanced endurance, reduced blood pressure, increased flexibility, and fat loss You can do this at home by using one of the many online programmes available, or you can go to a nearby fitness centre and sign up for classes. This form of workout is a fun activity to do with your daughter and releases all those happy hormones.
3. Walking
Taking a walk is a good idea, whether you want to take your pet out, or just bring each other up to date about your day. There is also the option of brisk walking, which entails taking small, rapid steps to keep your heart rate up, and is a good option for people wishing to add some intensity to their workout. Benefits include keeping your cardiovascular and muscular health in check, lowering your risk of heart disease and stroke, improving your balance, endurance, and muscle strength, and reducing body fat with a 30-minute walk every day.
4. Cycling
An activity that gained massive popularity during the lockdown, cycling has numerous health benefits. It's popular among individuals of all ages, which is why it can be a perfect exercise for mothers and daughters. It helps build stamina and muscle endurance, strengthens bones, improves posture and coordination, promotes heart health, and improves joint mobility, among other health advantages.
5. Pilates
Our Bollywood divas may have contributed to the popularity of this form of workout, but health experts have time and again shared how beneficial Pilates can be for fitness. It entails a set of movements performed in a specific order, with an emphasis on technique. Pilates is divided into different levels, with basic stretches and motions making up a large component of the low-impact workout. You can do this at home with only a yoga mat, or go to a dedicated studio with the necessary equipment, under the supervision of a trainer. Developing core strength, enhanced flexibility, better posture, increased strength without the bulk, toned muscles, and a stronger mind-body connection are some of the health benefits. If you both are open to trying on this increasingly popular form of workout, a lot of Pilates studios offer dedicated sessions for mothers and daughters.
After all, having a partner to workout with always helps you stay motivated and dedicated towards your fitness goals, while also spending quality time together.
