While experimenting with makeup is super fun, natural looks are what we turn to when we want something easy and low-key. If like me, your blush applying skills are on the verge of clown-like or your eyeliner is often haywire, don’t worry. Consider this your safe space to learn all about beauty tips.
Natural makeup involves subtly highlighting your features using products in the most undetectable, I-woke-up-like-this way. In theory, the no makeup, look is easy to pull off. But, if you don’t possess the deft skills of a makeup artist, it might end up looking cakey and well…not subtle. If you want to know about some top tips on how to subtly accentuate your natural features, keep reading.
Skin prep
The key to a natural makeup look lies in prepping your skin well. Hydrated skin results in flawless application and will prevent your makeup from settling in lines and dry patches. Have a solid skincare regime that you can stick to doing every single day, no matter what.
We highly recommend beginning with a facial spray like the Forest Essentials Facial Tonic Mist Pure Rosewater and then apply a moisturiser.
Dry skin will love the Kama Ayurveda Eladi Hydrating Ayurvedic Face Cream whereas those with normal or acne-prone skin can try the Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel.
Always make sure you apply sunscreen as the last step before using makeup.
Bring out the concealer
When it comes to makeup, don’t be afraid to do things your way. Just because a product is labelled as a concealer doesn’t mean it won’t do the job a foundation and vice versa. My favourite tip involves not using foundation but instead tapping in the asa Easy Blend Concealer on my lids, under-eyes, and around my mouth. The important thing is to make it look natural and so I like to blend cream or liquid products with my fingers. Another great tip? To prevent your under-eyes from creasing, rub your fingers together and then tap in the product. The heat from your hands will make it melt into your skin.
Comb your brows and lashes
Even if you don’t have time to draw on thin strokes on your brows, don’t skip combing them with a spoolie. This will make them look cleaner and well-shaped. Then, take a multipurpose lash and brow mascara like FAE Beauty Brash and give your lashes and brows a quick swipe.
Define your eyes
The key here is to define and not outline your eyes. You want to draw attention to your eyes in the most nonchalant way and to do that, you need to arm yourself with a brown eyeliner like the Colorbar All-Rounder Pencil in Blingy Bronze. Apply it to your top and bottom waterline and you’re set. Compared to black eyeliner, brown colour enhances eyes in a very subtle way and will make your lashes look thicker and amped-up from a distance.
Contour cleverly
No drawing the figure ‘3’ on your face, unless that’s the snatched look you’re going for. Instead, just swipe on some contour like the e.l.f. Cosmetics Monochromatic Multi Stick in Glistening Peach right below your cheekbones and blend it upwards. After you’re done, take a clean fluffy brush and go over the contoured area to diffuse any harsh lines.
Bring down the blush
A natural flush is very different from rosy cheeks so make sure you mute your blush. To prevent going over the top with it, swirl your brush in the pan till it is well coated in powder, and then tap off the excess. Start slow and gradually build up the colour till you have the intensity that you’re looking for. I highly recommend using the Kay Beauty Matte Blush in Dusty Rose because it is super easy to use and blend.
