Managing fine hair comes with a struggle of its own. Why? Because no matter what you do, sometimes it really does seem like your hair has a mind of its own and it is absolutely determined to fall flat. In such situations, replicating the voluminous looks of our thick-haired idols can seem like a distant dream, and if you’re fighting the same fight, don’t worry. After scouring the internet, we’ve found a few choice tips and tricks that will help you make the most of your thin tresses, no tussling with your mane required.
Don’t load up on styling products
The rule with all beauty products regardless of them being skin or haircare or even make-up remains the same: Start with less and build it up. The key to fighting flat and greasy hair is to initially use only half the recommended amount of product and then add more if needed. For fine hair, stick to styling products that have words like ‘volumising’, ‘lightweight’, ‘building’, ‘texturising’ and ‘thickening’ on the labels.

Condition only your ends
If you’re applying product to your mid-lengths, you’re adding weight to your roots. This makes your hair fall flat, no matter what you do. Just condition your ends and call it a day. When picking a product to smoothen your mane, look for nourishing ingredients like biotin, bamboo, protein, collagen, peptides, and niacinamide. These will plump up each strand of your tresses and make them look shinier and healthier.

Use the right tools
If you’re looking to add some fullness around your crown, use a round brush right at the roots and give them a blast of heat. When you come to your mid-lengths (right near your cheeks), add some waves with a curling or flat iron, and leave the ends straight. This beachy finish is an easy way to add volume to your look.
Fake thickness with braids
Want to make your plaits look thicker? Just loosen the loops after braiding and you’re set! This works wonderfully if you’re tying your locks in two braids or even going for an intricately woven bun.
Opt for layers or a lob
Thin hair looks best when it isn’t weighed down by its length. Shorter, choppier styles with layers give it a natural volume that requires little to no styling.
