There’s something so special about winters—the cosiness of the chilly nights followed by basking in the light of a pleasantly-warm day. That, and the romance that fills the air, whether you want it or not. There’s love all around us, be it in the form of celebrating festivals with our loved ones, cutesy pictures of in-love couples on Instagram or simply feeling happy, under the blanket of a starlit sky.
What is it about the cold weather that makes people think about love a little more than usual?
The link between winter and romance
According to a study, Warm It Up with Love: The Effect of Physical Coldness on Liking of Romance Movies published by the Oxford University Press, “The effect of physical coldness on liking of romance movies only occurs for people who associate romance movies with psychological warmth.”
Another reason we tend to seek romance in the winters is that the absence of enough sunlight causes our serotonin levels to drop. We thus, end up finding comfort and happiness in a bit of love.
It’s definitely not a one-size-fits-all rule, but if winter brings along the desire to stir up your love life a bit, why not mindfully make memories that will make you smile?
Fun things to do with your partner during winters
Go for a staycation
When the lockdown happened, it led to popularising of staycations that would help you enjoy leisure and luxury, in the comfort of your own city. With limitations on travel and luxury stays becoming comparatively cheaper than they used to be, many people are gravitating towards local romantic getaways. If you have a love for fine things, allow yourself a weekend of love filled with special moments, be it uninterrupted cuddle sessions, or a pillow fight.
Have a bonfire/barbeque night
What’s more beautiful than sitting by a bonfire, snuggled up with your bae? Whether you can do that in the comfort of your town, or you will have to head to another for a camping experience, it is all worth it. You may explore the campsites in areas around you that offer a host of activities these days including live music, open-air movie, barbeque, games and more.
Have a movie marathon
Sometimes, all you need is a good movie marathon, with your bae. Whether you are planning for an indoor movie or an open-air one, don’t forget to snuggle. Decorate your home with fairy lights, or make a lit-up canopy to build a cosy corner. Enjoy the movie with kisses and a cup of hot chocolate, or coffee, depending on your choice.
Travel together
If you’re feeling adventurous, and if it’s feasible, taking a trip in this part of the year, makes it so exciting. You can go skiing in Gulmarg, for a desert safari and night under the stars in Jaisalmer, stay in a houseboat in the backwaters of Kerala or go for a snow trek in the Himalayas. The weather will be conducive to making your moments rather special.
Host a party
They say that couples who slay together, stay together. This is the season in which people are in the mood to socialise and meet their loved ones, especially with festivals and holidays. How about hosting a party, as a couple? You can opt for a house party or simply gather your loved ones and go out. It will be nice to get along with each other’s circle, especially, if you are a long-term couple.
