When it comes to events and gatherings, you will always find me at the centre of them. I am always the one making plans, bringing people together, evoking the festive spirit and I bet, some people may find that enthusiasm annoying but those who love it, end up having a great time. I love a good mix of people, and I like it even better when I am the host. Of course, the before and after of a good party can be a little tedious but that’s the fun of it.
The fact that you are keen on becoming a good party host makes it evident that you take it seriously. And one should because a party is as good as its host. Another reason to take the whole planning and hosting process seriously is that you end up making things a lot easier for you.
Here are tips you should keep in mind to become a good party host.
Ask for help
Planning a party is not easy. Unless you have a lot of time in hand and can do everything by yourself, you should definitely ask for help. That way, your party will be well-organised, your close ones will feel involved and you won’t be out of energy when the crowd starts pouring in. Assign a department to each of your helpers and let them take over.
Make hassle-free food arrangements
Yes, if I had an unlimited supply of energy and time, I would be whipping up delicious dishes for all my guests. But the point of the party is for the host to have fun as well. If you feel like cooking, make one or two dishes, and order takeaway. Lay the food out on the table, decorate the platters if you like, and just be. If some of your close ones would like to bring in a dish, let them. Also, keep in mind the dietary preferences of your guests, in terms of vegetarian, vegan and non-vegetarian food.
Invite the right mix of people
Nothing kills the vibe of a party than a mix of people whose ideas of fun are poles apart. The best way to throw a fun party is to know which people to invite. As a common denominator, you should be able to gauge which of your connections can come under the same roof and have a great time together.
Keep the ice-breakers ready
A good party to remember has lots of opportunities for interactions even between people who didn’t know each other. Keep games, and interactive sessions well-planned so your guests end up having a good time at the gathering. Introverts will thank you.
Ensure the washroom is clean
The biggest turn-off for me is a bad washroom. With so many people in the house, you will need to check up on the state of your washroom, at least once in a while. Keep air fresheners in your washroom and switch on the exhaust fan. Also, ensure you have enough supply of toilet paper in there.
Keep essential items where they can be seen
You will be busy, as a host and your guests shouldn’t have to chase you to find essentials. That way, you won’t just be running around and will be able to entertain your guests. Keep spoons, forks, plates, napkins, and other essentials right where they can be seen. Keep enough drinking water supply. You can ensure these are either reusable or made of sustainable materials.
