When three-year old Mallika used to sing, dance and perform within the confines of her room, she had very little inkling that she would grow up to become a superstar! Most children her age would be busy with their toys, but Mallika’s favourite was the microphone in her room, which she used for imaginary live performances. She gave her first solo performance at the age of seven and the stage has been home to her ever since! Mallika has come a long way from then, living her dream to become a singer and a songwriter quite young.
Mallika feels one of the biggest challenges as an Indie Artist today is to get one’s music heard. No matter how accomplished they are or how many songs they have in their kitty, an artiste has to treat every new release as their first, constantly reintroducing themselves and their music, to cater to a newer audience.
For obvious reasons, Mallika is an ardent fan of Adele! From looking up to her as an idol, singing several of her songs to being crowned with the title ‘The Next Adele from India’ feels all too surreal for her! She’s also been featured at the Nasdaq billboard, Times Square, New York city for her most streamed song ‘But Tonight I Wanna Cry’. She recalls it as being one of the biggest moments of her life, and for all the right reasons. The song holds a special place in her heart as it came from a vulnerable place; she wrote it for herself to feel better and move on from certain things. She is immensely proud of what she put out for the world to listen to, and the resonance and validation she received from the audience is everything she could ask for!
Mallika feels music has healing powers so choosing to make a career out of it is empowering, because you not only heal the hearts of listeners, but your own as well.
