False lashes can be the most valuable players in your beauty routine. Not only do they open up your eyes and help you to look more awake, but they also make your eyes appear larger. Falsies are also the quickest, if not the easiest way to take any eye make-up look from basic to breathtaking. Mastering the art of applying lashes can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. Just like nailing the perfect cat-eyeliner and blending eyeshadow, putting on falsies without a hitch seems easy in theory, but in practice, it is a different ball game.
Considering the fact that getting luscious-looking lashes ranks fairly high on our to-do list, we’ve put together a step-by-step guide on how to ace lash application. If your attempts to wear these little strips have so far been rookie, here’s how to transform your lashes from short to striking and feathery.
Step 1: Prep your supplies
Before just trying to haphazardly wear falsies, make sure you have everything you need ready. Keep a brow pencil, lash glue, lashes, lash applicator, or tweezer, curler, and mascara handy.
Step 2: Fill in your brows
Your eyebrows frame your face and it is essential to comb or fill them in so you know how heavy you want to go on your eyes and lashes. Always brush your brows with a spoolie so you know where exactly where the sparse bits are. Fill them in with a powder, mascara, or pencil, and then remember to comb your brows again so they don’t look very harsh.
Step 3: Curl and apply mascara
To make sure your fake lashes blend in seamlessly with your natural ones, curl them before you apply the falsies. Then apply a coat of mascara.
Step 4: Dot lash glue
Before plonking the lashes directly on your lash line, make sure you apply lash glue. Dot the lash strip with tiny amounts of the adhesive, and wait for at least 30 seconds, so the glue doesn’t spillover. While it dries, you can bend the lashes so they sit better on your lash line.
Step 5: Look down
The easiest way to know where exactly you’re placing the lashes involves looking down. Yes, keep a handheld mirror on your lap and look in it while applying the falsies. Try and get as close to the lash line as possible and using the back of the lash applicator, press the strip down.
Step 6: Finish off with some mascara and eyeliner.
To tie the look together, make sure you apply a few coats of mascara. To cover up the strip of the lashes on your lash line, take some eyeliner and fill in any gaps. Draw a line from where the band begins to where it ends and extend it towards the outer corner of your eye.
