Like any other child, Ahana loved eating junk food and grew up in a small city in Rajasthan. As a child though, she couldn’t understand the difference between junk and healthy food. It was only when Ahana moved to the US to study, that she had visited Whole Foods. Here, she found a store that sold ‘better for you’ foods for entire families. It made her wonder why India didn't have similar options for packaged snacks. This realisation is what brought Ahana back home to start Open Secret and create an un-junk revolution. She wanted every Indian family to have access to packaged snacks without maida, palm oil, trans fats and without artificial flavour and preservatives.
Ahana’s biggest privilege is to be born to a mother who has always been her cheerleader and believed that her gender has nothing to do with her aspiration to receive the best-in-class education. She owes her success to her ‘rock star’ mother who has been the wind beneath her wings.
One thing that Ahana gathered while interacting with her consumers is that people do not want to change their eating/snacking habits. This gave the green light to Ahana’s business model, where a customer could enjoy their favourite snacks without compromising their health, by consuming an un-junk version of it.
Ahana reveals the secret behind un-junking everyone’s favourite packaged snacks. The equation of Open Secret is ‘your favorite snack - the junk + the good ingredients.’
