Talk about the hairstyling and the salon industry in India and one of the names that strikes you immediately is Adhuna Bhabani. Mama to two gorgeous girls, this fierce artist and entrepreneur is known for revolutionising hairstyling in India. Dressed in a green power suit, and a sustainable jhola around her shoulders, the 55-year-old walked into the studio oozing confidence and a personality one can only achieve with experience. Bhabani boasts a huge equity with millennials today and has many prestigious Bollywood feature films to her credit like Dil Chahta Hai, which broke the traditional mould of hairstyling in the industry. As we settle down for a chat, she tells us how one can equate power with confidence: “Power is a state of being. It could be perceived as a negative word and there’s a lot of negativity around powerful women. Power for me is having to become more confident to handle situations.”
Earlier this year, Honasa Consumer, the parent company of clean beauty brands such as Mamaearth and The Derma Co, acquired BBLUNT. Talking about the acquisition, Bhabani said, “This last one year, we were in a position, lucky enough, fortunate enough to be spotted as a brand that could be acquired. After all these years in the game that really is the end game. That’s a really great feeling, after almost 30 years in the business.”
