While it would be nice to waltz around the house in a silk robe and slip into a 1,000-thread-count bed sheet, a super luxurious bedroom is not in the cards for me right now. So what did I do? I got my creative juices flowing and came up with some easy and cheap alternatives to update my space. While decorating your bedroom on a shoestring budget may seem daunting, it doesn’t have to be difficult. Here, we’ve got our top budget bedroom ideas covered!
Upgrade Your Furniture Accents and Fittings
Think of fittings like accessories for your bedroom. The same way a statement choker or a clutch can transform an outfit, a new set of knobs or switches can refresh the whole room. By swapping out standard hardware for something a little more visually exciting—from vintage copper handles to quirky wooden knobs and beyond, you can add an extra touch of luxury to your space. You can also polish or paint over the old knobs as a DIY project.
Dress with wallpaper
Old, worm outdoors? Trick the eye by papering a cupboard, bathroom or room door with a fun, mural or wallpaper design. This requires minimal effort and time as compared to painting and fixing scratches – just choose a wallpaper in line with your budget and theme of the room. Look for a design that accentuates the scale and height of the ceiling. For a seamless look, it may help to replace obtrusive doorknobs or handles.
Think about your floor
Adding or changing a rug can have a big impact on the space. Think a thick shag or an eye-catching vintage kilim. Rugs have a profound impact in a home - they can tie a whole room together, introduce some colour or texture to a dullish area, or act as a focal decor piece. Whatever the reason, everyone needs a good rug. But like most beautiful things in this world, buying them from stores can get pretty expensive. So, instead of having to settle for a design that you’re not totally in love with, or having to spend way too much for that dream design, do the (not so) unthinkable and make your own rug. Stick together a whole bunch of carpet squares, place them together with single-sided carpet seaming tape to create one large, cohesive area rug. You can just ask around at stores, they may give you some for free or perhaps just charge you a minimal amount. Quick, cheap, easy, and painless!
Update Your Drapes
Giving your bedroom a new look and some character need not be an expensive affair. Drapes and blinds are the kind of thing you get so used to seeing every day, and noticing them. So, change that! Switch out window treatments for something that's going to actually add to your space and make it feel more expensive. All you need to do is empty out that trunk or storage which is home to your vintage prints, royal silks, cool cotton, and sheer chiffons. Here are a few simple ways in which you can reuse your saris to give your home a classic touch. Sari curtains are gorgeous; you can go classic or Bohemian either way they are unique, inexpensive, and add so much more glam to your space. Hang them floor to ceiling, and even go a few inches above your window to add some height, for a lovely elegant feel. Here’s your guide to a DIY saree curtain.
Budget-Friendly Artwork
Prints are a brilliant, inexpensive way to decorate a bedroom, and turn a sad, empty wall into something creative and stylish. Plus, once you have your frames you can change the prints every few months for a quick update. You can also make DIY dried press flower wall hangings or frames, and put it up on the wall. Also think about framing things you already have like postcards, wallpaper samples, even gift wrap can look cute!
Add some green to your life
A humble houseplant can do wonders – place a cute fiddle leaf fig in one corner or place small succulents on the shelf or bed stand. They add life, colour, and texture to a bedroom, plus you can pick pretty pots that add some decor too.
Light it up
Lighting is a key element in any room, but is especially important when you are thinking about creating an inviting and relaxing atmosphere. For an impactful change, look to your bedside lamps. It can be as simple as switching out your existing lampshades or you can consider swapping out your bedside lamps completely for elegant wall-mounted sconces. You can also put up some yellow fairy lights over the curtain or behind the bed. Invest in some scented candles.
