Rahi Sarnobat, the Olympic-bound shooter, displayed sensational form to win the gold medal at the women’s 25m pistol during the ongoing ISSF Shooting World Cup. However, teen sensation Manu Bhaker came seventh in the same event.
Sarnobat’s win makes it India’s first gold so far, especially after the country had earlier in the tournament secured one silver and two bronze medals. The 30-year-old gold medallist fired a final score of 39, after qualifying second with a total of 591 points. Her outstanding performance in the final was a culmination of perfect scores in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth series. During the qualification round, Sarnobat fired an impressive 296 in the rapid fire. Her score from the day before was equally impressive with 295 points.
Mathilde Lamolle from France, secured silver with a total score of 31 points in the final.
Bhaker, on the other hand, recorded a total of 588 to qualify third after firing an impressive 296 in the rapid-fire round on Monday, and an impressive 292 in the precision round on Sunday. However, her disappointing performance during the finals—scoring her a meagre 11 points—made her lose the shoot-off to Bulgaria's Viktoria Chaika.
