It’s a proud moment for India! Mithali Raj has become the first woman cricketer from the country to score 10,000 international runs. She achieved the feat while playing her 212th ODI for India against South Africa on March 12 .
Raj has scored 663 runs from 10 tests with the highest score of 214 at an average of 51. She has an impressive record of 37.52, having scored 2364 from 89 matches. She is at her best during ODI play, where she has scored 6974 runs from 212 matches, which also includes seven centuries and 54 fifties.
Raj is second only to former English cricketer, Charlotte Edwards in terms of overall leading runs scored in women’s international cricket. Edwards has scored 10207 runs from 309 matches with 67 half-centuries and 13 hundreds. Raj is likely to surpass this record with 75 fifties and eight centuries in her pocket.
Raj, who was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, started playing the game at the age of 10. She has played all three cricket formats for India (test, one day, and T20). Her One Day International debut was made in 1999, followed by her Test debut in 2001-02 season. She holds the record for playing the most number of consecutive Women’s One Day Internationals for a team at 109 matches. Apart from her honours in cricket, she has also been honoured with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour in the country, in 2015.
