Kanye West’s Yeezy and American clothing retailer, Gap, announced their collaboration for a co-branded clothing line in June 2020. Almost a year later, Gap has unveiled the first piece from the collaborative clothing line. As a part of the drop, the brand’s Instagram posts have disappeared to make way for just one post featuring the new piece from the Yeezy X Gap line.
The surprise first drop is a bright blue, round, cropped jacket made of recycled nylon. The puffer-style jacket is available for pre-orders on Gap’s website at $200 and will be shipped in autumn. The drop was concurrent with West’s birthday, who was also spotted in the jacket and a unique face mask last week. The Yeezy X Gap collection, including the blue jacket, was designed along with British-Nigerian designer Mowalola Ogunlesi.
While Gap has seen its fair share of struggle in recent years owing to declining sales, deep discounting and added pandemic woes, its collaboration with Yeezy, valued at $970 million, is set to add a fresh take to the brand’s creative and business strategy.
Yeezy, on the other hand, while being no stranger to collaborations, has been able to enjoy continued success even during the pandemic. It’s collaborative sneaker line with Adidas saw an annual sales revenue of around in 2020, up by about 31 per cent from the previous year.
