The Indian Navy has planned to recruit women for 20 per cent of vacancies in the first batch of Agniveers, as per the new four-year term Agnipath scheme. Around 10,000 women have registered for the Agnipath scheme. The application window will be open from July 15 to July 30. The exams, as well as physical tests, will be conducted in October.
As per the Agnipath scheme, the Indian Navy intends to send the women sailors recruited to various branches of the Navy. In the current year, they intend to hire 3,000 sailors including men and women.
The registrations had started on July 1 and within a week, so many women registered, which was commendable.
In the coming four years, the Indian Navy intends to hire 12,500 sailors as per the Agnipath scheme. These Agniveers, as the recruits are called, will form a different rank in the Armed Forces.
The Indian Navy is working on a report on the demonstration given by Dassault Aviation for Rafale-M and Boeing’s F-A 18 Super Hornet at the test facility in Goa. They are also looking to purchase fighter jets for the aircraft carrier.
“The Agnipath scheme in the Navy will be gender-neutral. As we speak, 30 women officers are sailing on board frontline warships. We have decided that the time has come to recruit women sailors as well, and in all trades which will include women who will go to sea,” Navy officials had stated.
As per the scheme, 25 per cent of the recruits are going to be hired into the force after the four-year term. The rest will be able to join the civil sector, along with paramilitary forces.
