As per the ‘Status of Policing in India Report, 2019’, women make up only 7.28 per cent of India’s police force. Of these women, 90 per cent are constables, while less than 1 per cent hold supervisory positions. The numbers are concerning as 20 states have reservations for women in the police. In the light of the above findings by a government survey authority, this news imparted by the commissioner is a ray of hope.
