Women have been driving sales in the car market in India, as they prove to be a valuable demographic in the same. According to a report by car retailing platform Spinny, women make for around 26 per cent of the consumers in the pre-owned car space.
The report also says that around 55 per cent of car buyers in India are actually purchasing a car for the first time and fall in the age bracket of 25 to 40 years with 31 being the average age.
With the need for increased mobility, financial independence, and decision-making autonomy, many women are looking to purchase a vehicle. A previous report stated that in India women account for 12 to 15 per cent of all automobile consumers. India’s leading companies in the car segment also claim that the female consumer is getting younger and the number of women looking to buy cars has increased greatly in the past year.
According to a study by GfK India, the major drivers for women in car sales are price, features and brand. Spinny found that Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Suzuki Swift, and Hyundai Elite i20 were the top three preferred models in the pre-owned car space.
In fact, most women buying pre-owned cars claimed that home delivery of the car was a criterion.
