As celebrations of India’s 74th Republic Day start today in full swing, the annual Republic Day parade that takes place in New Delhi will see a special theme this year. The theme of ‘Nari Shakti’ or women empowerment will be seen as a predominant theme in the tableaux at Republic Day celebrations.
The colourful tableaux will include ones from states like Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Ladakh Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Maharashtra as well as other states and union territories. A total of 23 tableaux, of which 17 from states and Union Territories and six tableaux from ministries and departments will showcase unique depictions of Indian cultures, as well as social progress.
The tableau for the state of Uttar Pradesh is based on the three-day Deepotsava that’s been organised since 2017. Haryana’s tableau is the Bhagavad Gita, showcasing Lord Krishna as the charioteer of Arjun. The tableau from Kerala was focused on Nari Shakti and folk traditions. West Bengal’s tableau highlighted the traditional Durga Puja, a form of worship of the mother goddess. Karnataka’s tableau was based on different themes: The bravery of the women of Karnataka, the state’s silk, Floriculture, the state as the leader of millets as well as ‘Nari Shakti’. The tableau of Uttarakhand focuses on its most popular tourist destination- Jim Corbett National Park and Jageshwar Dham, a group of 125 ancient small and big temples in its district of Almora.
The marching contingent by the Indian Navy and Air Force will be led by women officers during the Republic Day parade on the Kartavya path, with the contingents being led by Lieutenant Commander Disha Amrith and Squadron Leader Sindhu Reddy respectively.
