A recent study by Just Dial – a local search provider for services in India revealed that demand for wedding services during the season grew 49.7 per cent quarter-on-quarter across the country. According to Just Dial Consumer Insight, the demand for weddings in tier II cities remains the highest during the season, with a significant surge of 106 per cent. At the same time, the demand in Tier I cities remains stable.
The study noted that with vaccination across the country pacing up, strong assurance of safety and security coupled with dipping COVID-19 cases seem to be collectively driving the demand surge of wedding-related services and paving the way for a more consolidated and concerted growth momentum across all other consumer services in the days to come.
Just Dial studied the demand for wedding services such as banquet halls, makeup artists, wedding photographers, wedding bands, wedding jewellery, DJs and wedding planners in 1000 cities across the country. In this, it was found that the demand for wedding bands has increased the most in the country. At the same time, the demand for banquet halls and DJs has also increased a lot. Among the tier II cities, Patna, Lucknow and Gorakhpur are the top 3 cities in the second tier, where the demand for banquet halls was the most. On the other hand, caterers have been searched the most in Indore, Mangalore and Chandigarh. Most searches for banquet halls have been recorded in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. The demand for makeup artists has been found the most in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The demand for wedding jewellery has been highest in Chennai, Delhi and Bangalore. At the same time, the demand for wedding bands has been very high in Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
Commenting on the consumer demand growth during this wedding season, Prasun Kumar, CMO, Just Dial said, “With India successfully administering 1 billion COVID vaccine doses, the surge in demand for wedding services on Just Dial is one of the leading indicators of consumer economy recalibrating and bouncing back with pace. It is heartening to see that the demand rise for wedding services in Tier-II cities is almost 2X of India’s growth. Additionally, the festive season set the tone for this recovery indicating that the turnaround is here to stay. We look forward to strong demand build-up for the wedding season ahead.”
