The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced five new fellowships and research grants for the single girl child and retired faculty members to mark the occasion of Teachers’ Day. UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar has announced the launch of Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship for the Single Girl Child, Dr Radhakrishnan UGC Post-Doctoral Fellowship, the Fellowship for Superannuated Faculty Members, Research Grant for In-Service Faculty Members, and Dr DS Kothari Research Grant for Newly Recruited Faculty Members.
“On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, UGC is announcing several research schemes which will benefit Higher Educational Institutions across the country,” Kumar announced. Here are more details about each of these new scholarships.
Fellowship for Superannuated Faculty Members: This grant is for retired teachers who are interested in research work. The fellowship will be granted to 100 selected persons, with each receiving an amount of ₹50,000 per month, and another ₹50,000 per annum as contingency.
Research Grant for In-Service Faculty Members: This grant provides opportunities to appointed faculty members. The grant will be given to 200 selected candidates for a tenure of two years, who will receive ₹10 lakh for the entire period.
Dr DS Kothari Research Grant for Newly Recruited Faculty Members: This grant will be given to 132 faculty members who have been recently recruited to their posts. The selected candidates will receive a grant sum of ₹10 lakh for a tenure of two years.
Dr Radhakrishnan UGC Post-Doctoral Fellowship: This grant will offer 900 students an opportunity to carry out advanced studies and research in Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences. Around 30 per cent of the 900 seats are reserved for women candidates. The selected candidates will receive a monthly fellowship of ₹50,000 per month, and an amount of ₹50,000 per annum as a contingency.
