As we see a surge in the numbers of this deadly virus, there’s no denying that Herculean efforts are being made to ensure that the citizens of the country don’t have to suffer further. Both public and private sector organisations are coming together to make access to resources easier.
On 22nd April 2021, Uber revealed its alliance with HelpAge India, a non-profit dedicated to helping the vulnerable elderly, as part of its ongoing support for India's massive vaccination campaign. Uber will offer 25,000 free rides in the coming months as part of this partnership to help the disabled and impoverished elderly commute to nearest vaccination centres and back, in 19 cities.
This includes cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Bengaluru, among others.
Uber also shared that over 60,000 free rides have been used by riders across the country to get vaccinated at authorised centres in both government and private hospitals.
It has also given drivers new incentives to earn money, according to Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia.
This move has been applauded by all, with many users taking to social media to show their appreciation and motivating companies such as Uber to roll out such measures.
