Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment, P Geetha Jeevan, declared in the Assembly on Thursday that government women employees and teachers will be given 270 days off to care for their surrogate children.
She said that because the number of people having children through surrogacy is on the rise, government officials and teachers who have children through surrogacy will be given a 270-day 'child maintenance leave.'
She explained that this aims to assist female government employees in caring for newborns born through surrogacy.
In the Assembly, the Minister made new announcements for her department, stating that gender budgeting would be implemented in all departments.
