A recent survey, conducted by Horlicks Women's Plus in collaboration with Momspresso, aimed to understand the factors contributing to bone health issues among Indian women. The study, which gathered responses from over 1,500 women from various states, including Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, sought to gain comprehensive insights into the challenges faced by women in maintaining optimal bone health within a specific age group. By analysing data and experiences from these diverse regions, the research aimed to identify common trends, regional disparities and specific factors that contribute to bone health challenges amongst women.
The survey reveals that body aches are a common issue among Indian women, with nine out of 10 women experiencing some form of discomfort, including backaches, neck aches or other joint aches in a year. Among the respondents, a significant 71 per cent reported suffering from backaches. Surprisingly, almost 44 per cent of women suffer from these pains as many as three to four times in a single month, yet over 60 per cent remain unaware about their root causes. Eighty-seven per cent of women are not aware that poor bone health can be a major contributing factor to these issues. Additionally, a substantial majority of 72 percent rely on temporary pain relief solutions like ointments or balms to alleviate their body aches.
These findings underscore the widespread prevalence of body aches, particularly backaches, amongst Indian women, and the lack of awareness regarding the correlation between bone health and these pains. The reliance on short-term remedies highlights the urgent need for improved education and awareness regarding long-term strategies to manage and enhance bone health.
