With the aim of making working spaces women friendly, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government has issued directions to set up sanitary napkin vending machines and incinerators in government offices in the Kerala.
Speaking about the initiative, Health Minister KK Shailaja, said in a release, “Initially, the napkin vending machines will be installed at all major offices and other government offices where the majority of the workforce are women. The funds for this purpose will be allocated from the gender budget of departments concerned.”

The minister further said that this step was deemed necessary considering the problems faced by menstruating women at workplaces.

You may recall, back in 2018, the LDF had brought out a new health policy according to which, it was mandatory to set up napkin vending machines and sanitary disposal facilities in educational institutions from upper primary level.
