The convenience store franchise, 7-Eleven, is all set to make an entrance in India. Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL) has signed on a master franchise agreement with 7-Eleven Inc. (SEI) to launch 7-Eleven convenience stores in India through its wholly-owned subsidiary, 7-India Convenience Retail Limited. The first 7-Eleven store in India is all set to open its doors to customers in Mumbai’s Andheri East on Saturday, October 9.
Soon after the launch of the first 7-Eleven store, a rapid rollout will be conducted in key neighbourhoods and commercial areas across the Greater Mumbai cluster. RRVL is the country’s largest retailer already, but with the launch of 7-Eleven stores, Reliance is now offering Indians a superior shopping experience along with a great value proposition. As a brand, 7-Eleven stores offer a wide range of daily essentials—from beverages and snacks to groceries and delicacies—which are curated to appeal to local tastes. It is also believed that RRVL’s rapid expansion plan for 7-Eleven will also generate more local employment while also building an ecosystem for convenient foods. SEI is also set to support RRVL in implementing and localising the unique and global 7-Eleven retail business model for India. This includes bringing in the best in processes and practices that go along with this model.
“At Reliance, we pride ourselves in offering the best to our customers and we are proud to bring 7-Eleven, the globally trusted convenience store, to India. 7-Eleven is among the most iconic global brands in the convenience retail landscape. The new pathways we build together with SEI will offer Indian customers greater convenience and choices within their own neighborhoods,” Ms. Isha Ambani, Director, Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, said.
“India is the second largest country in the world and has one of the fastest-growing economies. It’s an ideal time for the largest convenience retailer in the world to make our entry into India” said SEI President and Chief Executive Officer Joe DePinto. “Our strategic relationship with Reliance Retail Ventures will bring 7-Eleven’s brand of convenient products and services to millions of Indian consumers starting in the city of Mumbai.”
