The National Teacher’s Award 2023 will be conducted on Teacher’s Day this year, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, to recognise and appreciate the teachers’ invaluable contributions. President Droupadi Murmu will bestow National Awards to 75 deserving individuals.
The motive of the award is to recognise and commemorate those teachers who, through their commitment and dedication, have not only improved the quality of education, but have also enriched the lives of their pupils.
Each award comes with a certificate of merit, ₹50,000 in cash and a silver medal. The recipients will also have the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Every year on Teacher’s Day, the Ministry of Education and the Department of School Education and Literacy organise a national level event to recognise and award the greatest teachers in the country, chosen after a rigorous and transparent selection procedure.
50 school teachers, 13 teachers from higher education and 12 teachers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will be honoured. Nominations were sought online to maximise participation, across qualities such as innovative teaching, research, community engagement and a fresh approach towards educating. The highest number of teachers selected for the away has been from Gujarat, followed by Karnataka and Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
