Designer Aneeth Arora’s label, Péro, recently collaborated and worked with skilled Afghani refugee women to create a range of crochet garments for the brand’s latest collection, Mini. While has been working with the artisans for years now, for the Mini collection, the brand went a step ahead and experimented with engineered crochet using a mix of wool yarn and fabrics.

The internationally stocked label, known best for its genius blend of traditional Indian textile with a western aesthetic, used the vibrant and intricately made crochet for jackets, hoods as well as detailing. Other pieces for Mini include skirts, handwoven merino wool jumpers, and a fuschia pink maxi dress. The details include the checkered print, amongst other details, added in a heart shape and made out of recycled fabric. The print is also a major part of the collection, used for jackets, dresses and skirts that are a part of Mini.

A perfect example of Péro’s balance between Indian and western is the checkered dress layered over a handwoven chanderi top, paired with merino wool houndstooth jacket. The look also featured and upcycled shoes from footwear brand, Grounds. An integral part of the collection were the recycled rag dolls made in collaboration with Delhi-based artist Richard Gomes. “Each of these dolls has been given names and his illustrations have been rendered as prints and elaborate 3-D embroideries using beads, sequins, threads and recycled fabrics with the help of our skilled craftspeople,” said the brand on an Instagram post about the rag dolls.
