A recent study titled "Unveiling the Potential and Scope of the Online Skill Gaming Industry: A Study with Technology Students and Professionals" by the E-Gaming Federation (EGF) and the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata (ISIK), revealed the growing allure of the online gaming sector among the technology community in India. Conducted through a comprehensive survey involving 4644 participants from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, the study vividly demonstrated a robust interest among both students and professionals in the realm of online skill gaming. Notably, an impressive 73 per cent of respondents indicated a strong inclination towards pursuing careers within this dynamic domain, underlining the sector's significant growth potential. Furthermore, 68 per cent acknowledged the industry's role in enhancing valuable skill sets, while 60 per cent believed that the chance to innovate within India could mitigate the departure of tech talent to overseas job markets.
Equally significant, the study unveiled the online skill gaming sector's appeal to highly skilled engineers, with 55 per cent of participants expressing a preference for this field due to its emphasis on technology adaptation and innovation. This sentiment harmonised with the industry's rapid integration of cutting-edge technologies like AI/ML and VR, firmly establishing India as a leader in driving technological advancements.
Dr Subhamoy Maitra, a professor at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, commented on the survey's findings, stating, “This analysis revealed a strong belief among respondents that India's domestic gaming industry could act as a catalyst in retaining technology talent within the country, offering opportunities for innovation and growth.”
