According to a report by a professional networking platform Apna, the number of women applying for remote jobs has doubled up in the last eight months.
The report said that the platform found a 132 per cent increase in the number of female users seeking remote jobs.
“The flexibility and the convenience brought by remote working has the potential to inspire more professionals to join the workforce, further accelerating the economic engine of the country,” Manas Singh, Chief Business Officer, apna.co, said in a statement.
The main motivation factor for women seeking remote jobs is little to no commute required. Apart from that, flexible work hours, which helps them balance their home life and pursue other ways of income generation.
Another report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) states that more women are open to freelance work, if they can do it remotely.
The ILO report also indicates that 34 per cent of rural Indian women and 28 per cent in urban areas were willing to accept work at home.
BPO jobs such as telecalling or telesales, data entry operator and more are gaining popularity.
Working remotely has been found to be a preference for women in both metro cities abd other cities.
