As per a comprehensive survey conducted by Indian Ayurvedic Women’s health brand Gynoveda, vaginal, menstrual, and reproductive health issues have emerged as critical concerns, casting a shadow over the well-being of women in Northeast India. The survey, encompassing the eight states of the region and featuring over 500 respondents, has revealed an alarming reality. A staggering 98 per cent of women from this region have either grappled with or continue to face these distressing health challenges, emphasising the urgent need for accessible and holistic healthcare solutions in the area.
Within these overarching health issues, two significant categories have emerged: menstrual health issues and vaginal health issues. Among the respondents, 55 per cent reported suffering from menstrual health problems, with the most prevalent being Polycystic Ovarian Disorder (PCOD), affecting 36 per cent of women. An additional commonly experienced menstrual health problem was Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), which afflicted 12 per cent of women.
Turning the spotlight to vaginal health, the survey revealed that Pelvic Inflammatory Disorder (PID) affected 24 per cent of women. This infection of the reproductive organs can cause pelvic pain, infertility, and other complications. Furthermore, Candidiasis, commonly known as a yeast infection, affected 18 per cent of women in the region.
Delving deeper into the survey findings, it was uncovered that 56 per cent of women in northeast India either currently experience or have experienced menstrual health issues. Additionally, 42 per cent of women have encountered or continue to face vaginal health issues. The survey included the participation of 85 per cent of women aged 35 years and above, with the remaining 15 per cent falling below the age of 35 years.
These findings shed light on the pressing reproductive health challenges faced by women in northeast India. It underscores the urgent need for comprehensive healthcare solutions that address the specific needs of women in the region. By prioritising accessible and inclusive healthcare, we can empower women to lead healthy and fulfilling lives while fostering a society that champions the well-being of all its members.
