For the first time ever, Ladakh’s Kargil now has an all-women police station to deal with crimes against women, and provide aid and resources. The police station has already started functioning in the Union Territory of Ladakh, which is a big step towards women’s safety and empowerment. The police station was inaugurated by SD Singh Jamwal, Additional Director General of Police, who mentioned that the station will work 24/7 to provide immediate support and assistance to women in need.
It will also serve as a resource facility, offering advice and therapy to women in difficult circumstances, the official spokeswoman added. Jamwal stressed the value of women’s empowerment and their active involvement in law enforcement after officially inaugurating the police station. The opening of the Kargil women’s police station is an important step towards building a more inclusive and secure community. According to the Ladakh police head, this effort will give women more confidence to approach the police, since they know their issues will be treated sympathetically and quickly.
This initiative aims to provide a safer and more supportive environment for women to report incidents and seek justice. It dedicatedly focuses on handling cases related to women’s rights, domestic violence, harassment and other gender-specific offences. The police station will be a testament to the Ladakh’s police department’s commitment to strengthen the bond between the police force and the community.
