For its manned mission, ISRO prefers female fighter test pilots which could change in the future. In 2024, ISRO plans to launch a female humanoid, a robot that resembles a human in its unmanned Gaganyaan spacecraft.

About Gaganyaan Mission
According to Space Agency Chief S Somanath, ISRO wants to send female scientists or fighter test pilots for its highly anticipated Gaganyaan mission, which is a human space travel programme. He added that ISRO plans to launch a human-like robot, called a female humanoid, in its unmanned Gaganyaan spacecraft the following year. The mission’s ambitious goal is to launch humans into space for three days in a 400 km Low Earth Orbit and return them safely to Earth.
Women Air Force fighter test pilots
Somanath stated that the manned trip will be completed quickly and that it is anticipated to happen by 2025. The first route would be one involving Air Force fighter test pilots and at present, there aren’t any female fighter test pilots. So, that is one route after they arrive. The second choice would be one with increased scientific activity. They will come as astronauts which will open more avenues for women at that point in time. Currently, there are fewer opportunities because there are no female fighter test pilots.
Plans
ISRO aims to launch a fully functional space station by 2035. Before the human space flight mission Gaganyaan, ISRO had successfully launched the TV-D1 test vehicle. The space agency successfully launched the test spacecraft carrying payloads connected to the nation’s ambitious Gaganyaan programme after overcoming early setbacks, including delays. Scientists carefully prepared the precise splashdown of the test spacecraft into the Bay of Bengal while simulating an abort scenario for the Crew Escape System to remove the Crew Module.
