Who can forget the year 2018, when Natalie Portman called out the Golden Globes for snubbing female directors at Golden Globes. As she took to the stage to present the award for the Best Director that year, she had said, “Here are the all-male nominees.”
Two years on, and Golden Globes has made history as it unveiled its nominations recently. For the first time ever, the awards gala has nominated three women in the Best Director category.

Regina King has been nominated for One Night in Miami, Chloe Zhao for Nomadland, and Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman. David Fincher for Mank and Aaron Sorkin for The Trial of the Chicago 7 have also been nominated in the category. It is important to note that the last female director to be nominated for Best Director was Ava DuVernay for Selma in 2014, and the only woman ever to have won is Barbra Streisand for Yentl in 1983, as per the reports.

Interestingly, Regina King is only the second black woman to have nominated in the category, and Chloé Zhao became the first director of Asian descent to receive a Golden Globe nomination.
Meanwhile, The Crown and Manx received maximum nominations. The event will be held on February 28, 2021 and will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
