Lily Gladstone Is The Golden Globes’ First Indigenous Best Actress Winner
Lily Gladstone’s portrayal in Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ earned her the Golden Globe for Best Female Actor - Motion Picture. Gladstone became the first indigenous woman to win this award. She portrayed real-life character Mollie Kyle, the Indigenous spouse of World War I veteran Ernest Burkhart (DiCaprio). The Scorsese epic depicts the actual events of Oklahoma’s Reign of Terror in the 1920s, when a criminal organisation determined to obtain the Osage Nation’s wealth and oil killed members of the tribe.
Gladstone gave her victory speech in Blackfeet language. She also thanked her mother, who despite not being Blackfeet, worked tirelessly to get the language into her classroom and roped in a Blackfeet language teacher while she was growing up. Gladstone was grateful to speak her language - albeit not fluently – on a global stage.

We’re Rooting For Ayo Edebiri’s Acceptance Speech!
At the 81st Golden Globes, the Bear actor accepted the award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy. As she took the stage, Edebiri seemed obviously stunned, but didn’t waste any time in launching into the deadpan humour that has made her one of Hollywood’s biggest up-and-coming talents.
Following thank yous to her family and fellow cast members, Edebiri made special mention of the ones who pull everything together - Hollywood’s executive assistants. She also expressed her gratitude to a few truly unsung heroes who helped shape her career and made sure to acknowledge and thank all her agents’ and managers’ assistants. Edebiri concluded her speech by apologising to anyone she may have forgotten to thank, unless they had been mean to her!
