Indian handloom luxury brand, Ekaya, has recently launched ‘The Revival Project’ aimed at recreating and restoring heirloom pieces. As a part of the initiative, Ekaya enables customers to give the brand their heirloom garments to be restored or revived by the brand’s weavers. Each client is invited to sign up on the brand’s website along with images of the garment they wish to restore, followed by the brand collaborating with the client for the same. Any old damaged heirloom sari, lehenga, or textile piece can be eligible for the revival, thus giving these sentimental pieces a new lease of life.
With the new initiative, the homegrown brand puts some much-needed spotlight on the importance of traditional textile crafts and local artisans. As the brand wrote in a social media post about the project, the initiative is a way of ‘paying homepage to both the preserver and the creator of these heritage textiles.’
As a part of the campaign for the project, the brand showcased images of saris restored by its weavers. The saris were weaved using weaving techniques like Jamdani, Kadwa, and Meenakari. When originally created, it took weavers between 300 to 420 hours of work by hand for each sari.
