Happy Republic Day!
As we celebrate India’s 75th Republic Day today, now more than ever, it becomes important to highlight that India’s constitution coming into effect on January 26, 1950 led us on a path to glory. A few milestones that we as a nation can feel pride in:
India becomes a republic
• Economic Planning begins in India
• First General Elections take place
• Say hello via the 1st International Telephone Exchange
• The Green Revolution by MS Swaminathan
• Indian Space Research Organisation Launched
• Bhanu Athaiya wins the first Oscar for costume design
• Liberalisation of India’s economy
• Amartya Sen wins a Nobel for his contribution to welfare economics
• Right to Education
• Kailash Satyarthi wins the Nobel for Peace sharing it in poetic justice with Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan
• India becomes the third largest eco-system of startups
• Section 377 decriminalised
• ICC Top Ranking for India’s men’s cricket team
• India’s first tribal president Draupadi Murmu takes office
• Chandrayan 3 successfully launched.
And so, I say, now more than ever, the Preamble to India’s constitution sets the tone. We, the people of India…
