Naturalist and writer, Wendell Berry once said, “The Earth is what we all have in common.” And these words hold true when we look at global warming and climate change. It’s this very reason that people the world over should come together to inculcate sustainable practices and have a collective responsibility to restore the planet, making Restore Our Earth a fitting theme for Earth Day 2021.
In fact, the focus is the propagation of natural processes and emerging green technologies that can restore the ecosystems. As reported by DNA, “In this way, the theme rejects the notion that mitigation or adaptation is the only way to address climate change.” This year marks the 51st Earth Day, and earthday.org calls on everyone to “be a part of the change”.
First initiated on April 22, 1970, every year since, the day highlights various environmental issues like loss of biodiversity, or increasing pollution among others. According to the official website, this year, various seminars will focus on:
• Climate and environmental literacy
• Climate restoration technologies
• Reforestation efforts
• Regenerative agriculture
• Equity and environmental justice
• Citizen science
• Clean-ups, and more
According to the website, world climate leaders, grassroots activists, non-profit innovators, thought leaders, industry leaders, artists, musicians, influencers, and the leaders of tomorrow will come together to propel us towards a better world.
