A couple from Tamil Nadu is all set to host their Hogwarts-themed wedding reception in Metaverse, in February 2022. Dinesh S P and Janaganandhini Ramaswamy will have wedding rituals in their village, Sivalingapuram, but their reception is going to be held at a virtual venue, where they will be joined by their loved ones from around the globe.
“We are the first couple in the nation getting married in Metaverse. I have been working on blockchain for the past one year, so I know more about it and Crypto. Metaverse is a technology working in blockchain,” Dinesh told Indian Express. For the uninitiated, Metaverse is a virtual space represented by digital avatars of people, places, and objects.
Dinesh is a project associate at IIT Madras and wants to spread awareness about this tech through his wedding reception. He revealed how it all started with a video he came across on the subject, and that made him wonder if an event can be held in Metaverse. “I know the future is big in Metaverse. Now, companies like Microsoft, Facebook and lot more are investing in Metaverse. So I thought by conducting an event, everyone in India will know about the technology. We can work on a start-up and develop it,” he explained.
In fact, Dinesh is also intending to have the bride’s late father’s digital avatar attending the wedding reception in Metaverse.
Janaganandhini revealed she was not sure earlier if this was all doable, and still doesn’t have a thorough idea of the concept.
Chennai based start-up, TardiVerse, led by Vignesh Selvaraj, is spearheading the metaverse project. It has been developed based on Polygon Technology Blockchain.
Selvaraj explained that all people have to do is log in through the website, choose an avatar for themselves and join the festivities. The avatars of the couple, their family members and friends have been already created. The Metaverse will have the couple, family members and the guests can even talk to each other while at it.
