"Nagaland For Green Christmas" Campaign Launched
SDG Coordination Centre (SDGCC) of the planning & coordination department launched its third edition of “Nagaland for Green Christmas” campaign, focusing on mobilising all the residents of Nagaland to celebrate a sustainable and environment-friendly Christmas.
The key objective of the campaign is to align the Christmas festival celebration to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) dissemination and spark on-ground action across the state for making this Christmas and beyond, sustainable.
ITC Maratha Installs Tree Handcrafted By 45 Tribal Artisans
ITC Maratha in Mumbai showcased a first-of-its-kind Christmas tree installation - Silpaakriti. The art collective concept is curated in collaboration with NGO, CHIVAR (Cluster of Handicraft in Bamboo Value Addition and Research) and showcases 18 feet tall structure handcrafted by 45 tribal artisans from district Palghar and Sindhudurg.
Bringing cultural cognizance to native art of Warli and renewable bamboo; the community outreach program was focused on supporting the MSME and KSV tribal artists with project employment.
Bengaluru Church Builds A 25 Ft Eco-Friendly Tree With The Help Of A Blind Basket Weaver
The Primrose Mar Thoma Church has time and again proved that almost anything, especially decorations, can be transformed to beautiful creations by using environment-friendly and locally available material and discarded objects. The church has continued the tradition of recreating decorations using eco-friendly and recycled materials to give shape to Christmas trees for the past 15 years. The members of the church have this year curated an eco-friendly Christmas tree, towering over 25 feet, using mainly bamboo strips made with the help of a blind basket weaver and his wife (Satish and Lakshmi) near Bamboo Bazaar, and old CDs collected from church members. The Christmas wreaths inside are made of basket weave and decorated with CDs.
The Baker’s Dozen Joins Hands With Schools For The Differently Abled To Spread Holiday Cheer
Artisanal bakery – The Baker’s Dozen (TBD) joined hands with special schools across the nation to spread love and cheer amongst differently abled children. As part of this initiative, TBD curated fun, engaging activities with the students of the following schools- Asha Kiran Academy, Bangalore; SPJ Sadhana, Mumbai; BrahmaShakti, Delhi and Asha for Autism, Bangalore. The goal was to make the students happier with fun and engaging activities during the festive season.
A Lab-Grown Jewellery Christmas Tree By Vandals
Designer lab-grown jewellery brand Vandals took over Christmas with some diamonds and fine jewellery to add sparkle this holiday season. As a part of the celebration, an eight feet tall Christmas tree was decorated with fine jewellery from Mahesh Notandass and lab-grown jewellery from Vandals. Using almost 150 pieces of jewellery like earrings, neckpieces, many tikkas and much more, the tree is indeed a sight for sore eyes! Lab-grown jewellery is surely becoming the more eco-friendly and conscious choice thanks to the absence of mining and other hazardous processes.
