Diversity consultancy firm Avtar Group conducted a recent study titled the Top Cities for Women in India (TCWI) report, which identified Chennai as the safest Indian city for working women. This acknowledgment is credited to the collaborative efforts of the government and local organisations in creating a conducive environment for women's employment.
The report categorised Indian cities based on their population size, presenting two distinct lists. Among cities with over a million residents, Chennai secured the top spot, with Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, and Hyderabad following closely for their efforts in fostering a favourable environment for women in the workforce.
The study developed a comprehensive City Inclusion Score (CIS) for preselected cities, amalgamating three key pillars: Social Inclusion Score (SIS), Industrial Inclusion Score (IIS), and Citizen Experience Score (CES).
Sample Size
Covering a wide spectrum, the survey encompassed 113 cities across India to assess their inclusivity and support for working women. Among these, 49 cities belonged to the million-plus population category, while 64 entries fell under cities with a population of less than a million.
In the category of cities with less than a million inhabitants, Tiruchirappalli claimed the top position, followed by Vellore, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Shimla for their commendable efforts in creating a conducive atmosphere for the employment of women.
