Union Minister of Education, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', recently launched 100+ comic books created by teachers of CBSE-affiliated schools and curated by NCERT (The National Council of Educational Research and Training). The comic books have been developed for 16 subjects for students from classes 3 to 12. Each comic book includes chapters dealing with topics to increase social and cultural sensitivity among children. With this initiative, the Government & NCERT are focusing on transforming education to personalised learning, as 21st century schooling emphasises on knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and transformative competencies that create holistic learners.
These comics can be accessed online on DIKSHA web portal (diksha.gov.in) or via the DIKSHA app on any Android smartphone. They can also be accessed through a new WhatsApp powered Chatbot, which presents a unique opportunity to expand the scope of digital learning. Speaking to the press on the occasion the Minister said that in its endeavour to provide holistic learning to students and to usher in the vision envisaged in the New Education Policy 2020, the Department of School Education and Literacy has launched these comic books. He further congratulated the creative and innovative teachers from various schools who were involved in the initiative. The minister also launched CBSE Assessment Framework for Science, Maths and English classes as part of CBSE Competency Based Education Project.
The comic books have been developed by the faculties of Scholastic (language), Fine Art, Performing Arts and Information Technology across 12 States/UTs – Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Uttarakhand. Each comic has been divided into smaller topics supported by worksheets. While developing the content for the books, care has been taken to address issues of gender sensitivity, women empowerment, and value education among other life skills.
