As India commemorates 75 years of independence with the 'Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav,' continuous initiatives in the direction of women's empowerment have also come to the fore. Women have begun to take their rightful, equal place as front-runners in nation-building and representatives of our strong national character in recent years.
The Border Road Organisation (BRO) has been inducting large number of women into its workforce over the last couple of years. By empowering them with the tools of authority, responsibility and respect, the organisation believes that women will always be active participants in the endeavour of nation-building.
Director General BRO Lieutenant-Common Rajiv Chaudhary highlighted in an interview with a publication that this might be a game-changer since women officers are working hard day and night to prove their mettle in the toughest erin and difficult challenges.
“Due to them challenge goes very quick and it’s a mannequin of Nari Shaktikaran,” he stated.
“The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has additionally inducted numerous ladies into its workforce over time. By empowering them with the instruments of authority, duty and respect, BRO firmly believes that girls will all the time be lively members within the endeavour of nation constructing,” Lt Gen Chaudhary added.
The organisation continues to assign increased managerial responsibilities to women, confirming this perception. On April 28, 2021, a GREF officer, EE (Civ) Vaishali S Hiwase, took over the leadership of 83 Street Building Firm, which is located on an important Indo-China street that connects Munisairi, Bughdiar, and Milam, in an environment rife with hardship and challenges. The female officer has assumed command and is in charge of the budget with thorough execution of her responsibilities.
On 30 August 2021, BRO made history once more when Main Aaina of Venture Shivalik was appointed Officer Commanding, 75 RCC at Pipalkoti in Chamoli district. She is the first Indian Military Engineer Officer to lead a Street Construction Company. Not only that, but her three Platoon Commanders, Captain Anjana, AEE(Civ) Bhawana Joshi, and AEE(Civ) Vishnumaya Ok, are all female officers, and together they've formed the first-ever Girls RCC.
The BRO intends to create four such all-girls RCCs, two each in the North Japanese and Western sectors. BRO has increased the number of women engaged in various roles and responsibilities in highway construction over the previous six years in a progressive and consistent manner. A concerted attempt is being made to empower them by granting them authority and responsibilities to carry out activities on their own. These ladies have become Nari Shakti emblems in their respective communities.
BRO's multi-faceted approach to Women Empowerment includes job opportunities, opportunities for higher education, access to proper healthcare, travel opportunities, sports activities, and encouragement to develop holistically, as they play the main roles in all walks of life. Women empowerment in the fullest sense has also been accomplished by embracing an attitude shift.
This is accomplished through instilling trust in them and treating them with the appropriate respect, dignity, equity, and equality. Aside from the specialised field, girls are also taught how to manage their finances and paperwork as part of welfare activities.
