“Don’t let society define you. Don’t let your skin define you, because you’re worth so much more than that.”
A body-positive movement where we include all irrespective of weight, body shape, size, height, physical ability, neurodiversity, skin colour, skin texture, and gender orientation. The Her Circle EveryBody Project centres around acceptance, sisterhood, and solidarity - a step towards normalising the reality of being human in all its glorious imperfections. Our June edition features influencer, dancer, and skin-positive advocate Aastha Shah.
Aastha firmly believes that until the number of diverse models that are on covers or campaigns is equal to the number of girls that fit the “normal beauty standard mould”, as a society we have a lot of work to do. She is among the wave of rule breakers for diversity in the digital space who has channelled the power of social media to fight the stigma around vitiligo – an autoimmune disease and skin condition she was diagnosed with as a child that leads to depigmentation and discolouration of the skin. “Children would refuse to sit with me, they would call me a Dalmatian,” she shares, adding that it was a long journey to self-acceptance.
