Italian-style gelato has found a new home in India, thanks to The Gelato Bar. Created by chef Rachi Gupta, the artisanal gelateria aims to melt hearts and warm souls with its freshly made, hand-churned offerings. This venture, which brings a scoop of Italy to Indian shores, reflects Rachi’s love for aesthetics and culinary creativity.
After the success of her previous venture, The Bread Bar, launched during the lockdown, Rachi decided to pursue her passion for gelato. At just 22, she began her journey by learning the craft in Italy. “I wanted to bring something new to the table and do it right,” she shares. “The three-week programme in Italy taught me the basics of ingredients, simple methods, and substitutions to adapt to Indian ingredients, like milk and sugar.”
The Gelato Bar emphasises the use of fresh, natural ingredients, making authentic Italian gelato while locally sourcing key elements to highlight unique flavours. From classic options like Vanilla and Hazelnut to refreshing choices like Orange Sorbet and Roasted Almond, the variety is crafted to satisfy every palate.
By balancing Italy’s artisanal methods with local Indian ingredients, Rachi’s Gelato Bar has become the perfect blend of tradition and innovation. With each scoop, she brings a taste of Italy while ensuring the flavours remain distinctly Indian.
