It isn’t a mere coincidence that Saba was drawn into the world of food and culinary delights. This World Photography Day, we uncover the journey of a distinguished photographer who combines her love for cooking and art.
Saba was raised in a conservative family where girls are expected to learn to cook and manage the household. This wasn’t too much of a challenge, since Saba happened to love cooking. She believes that the best thing that happened to her was her culinary education. Her first day at college was enough to validate that she was in the right place, doing exactly what she wanted to for the rest of her life - cook.
With time, Saba gradually moved on from being just a chef to someone who made good food, and made it look good on camera too! Initially she was referred to as a ‘food coordinator’, ‘food decorator’, ‘caterer’ and a dozen other odd names. The time then came for Saba to make a choice ─ whether she wanted to make this switch from being a chef and what formal name to give her passion. This was in 1996, a time when such a profession or career option was unheard of. Saba became a ‘Food Stylist’ ─ coining her own moniker, and becoming successful and most sought after!
Saba strongly believes that a food photographer should understand food first, and photography later. The chronology of things eventually falling into place was like fitting pieces in a puzzle. From a chef, Saba became a stylist and then started her own food photography studio called Food Photographics.
