She has been in the online teaching sector for quite some time. She teaches children through her online portal Learnohub (erstwhile Examfear) without charging a fee for her services.
In the past, many students have suffered as they had to stop their studies to support their family because they didn’t have the financial backing to pursue higher studies. Now, however, things have changed for good. The fiery expansion of affordable internet and smart devices has enabled many families to educate their children. It is without the need for extra tuition or expensive competitive exam preparations. All a learning child needs is uninterrupted internet and the zeal to learn. Online education and learning have changed the way people now perceive education. Let’s learn more about Roshni Mukherjee, the inspiring woman who become an online teacher and entrepreneur to bring about a change. We’ll see how she moved through life and succeeded against all odds.
Who is Roshni Mukherjee?
Roshni Mukherjee is an inspiring protagonist in many children’s lives who haven’t yet released her biography but we’re sure all entrepreneurs and learners will want to read it. Roshni Mukherjee is the founder of the online learning portal called Examfear, which has now been renamed as Learnohub. She is a learning enthusiast, who experienced the Indian education system first hand and realised that it needed a change. While the Indian education sector charges a high fee from parents, it barely provides quality in its education. And we’re not talking about the high-end IB league schools, they certainly have trained educators. It is the regular public (non-government) schools that exploit the innocence of parents that want nothing but a good education and career for their kids.
Let alone quality, children in rural areas are deprived of a good school with teachers for every subject. Most government-run, Anganwadi schools in rural areas of India have no quality of education and till the age of eight, most of these students can’t even say the alphabet. Roshni aims to educate the kids that have been unfortunate in getting quality education or any education at all. Roshni herself has had a tough time getting quality education in the public schools she studied at, yet she worked hard to gain top scores in all subjects. Let’s learn where she hails from.
Family Background
Roshni comes from the small city of Dhanbad in Jharkhand. Belonging to a middle-class Bengali family, she always had the yearning to study and follow a career of importance. Her parents, who had a humble income, always supported Roshni and gave her the best of education that they could afford for her. Her mother was always very eager to get Roshni into a good school, so that she could learn from the best. But Roshni, even though she excelled as a student, had a hard time getting her doubts cleared.
She took her chances with her own brain and studied hard. Although her teachers had the knowledge, teaching someone required an entirely different skill set. Roshni was a fast learner, given she had a good teacher to quench her inquisitive mind. She was the school’s topper through her exams and always wanted to pursue a career in a technical background. For her dream, it was important that she had a quality educator for subjects like math, physics, chemistry, and computer sciences. Roshni did get her fair share of teachers for a few subjects but most of the time, there was a huge gap that kept her from fully understanding concepts, for which she researched on her own and topped her exams.
Education
Roshni was a great student in her school life as she had the urge to learn from childhood. Being supported by her parents that wanted the best for her, she always worked hard at her studies and came out to be a topper in all exams. A lot of students live a life where the future of their family depends on them having a great career, be it in corporate or by passing a competitive examination for government recruitment. Roshni, too, was one such student who was in a perform or perish position.
Despite having hardships in her personal life, Roshni never failed to peak in her exams and became the school topper in her board examinations. Roshni had a sharp mind and passed examinations on merit. Hence, she went to be a science merit scholarship holder at college and took care of her college funds in doing so. Roshni has done her MSc in Physics from Hansraj College at Delhi University.
Passion to Teach
Roshni had always had the talent to teach. While in college, she used to teach her nieces, cousins, and kids of family friends. The children that she taught always had positive feedback on her teaching style and said that it helped them a lot during examinations. Roshni was always appreciated by her peers for her teaching capabilities.
While she had done her scholarship with merit, she understood that there are many unfortunate kids that didn’t receive proper education, despite the urge to study. Roshni saw the education structure in rural areas of India, in states like Jharkhand, where she had once lived, and it gave her the inspiration to be a help to those who had been left behind due to financial shortcomings.
Starting Examfear
During her MSc, Roshni had the biggest trauma of her life - the loss of her father. Even after her father’s demise, Roshni continued to study with the same passion and went on to complete her MSc. Then, the choice came to follow her passion or be support for her mother, and she chose to join the corporate arena, leaving her passion for academics behind. She was hired by Wipro in her campus placements and worked there for three years before joining Hewlett Packard as a Senior Quality Analyst.
While working with Wipro, Roshni again found her passion for teaching as she was learning about the education sector’s failures. So, in 2011, Roshni started a YouTube channel called Examfear. She started giving free lectures on subjects like physics, chemistry, and math for students from class 9th to 12th. When she started getting a lot of appreciation from students around the country, she understood that she had found her destiny. After her YouTube channel crossed more than 70,000 subscribers, she finally quit her IT job at Hewlett Packard and focused on her venture. She has an understanding and skilled husband who helped her in the initial setup of her own website with the same name. Her software engineer husband helped create the website with outsourcing and run an online self-sufficient business. Today, Roshni’s Examfear has transformed into Learnohub, where she provides quality education to students across the country without a fee.
How Learnohub is Benefiting Students
The main benefit of Roshni’s educational website is for students who cannot afford extra coaching classes and tuition. Her lectures and study workbooks provided on the website come free of cost and can be accessed from all devices. Roshni’s teaching style is integrated with fun-filled examples and is great for inquisitive minds that want to learn.
Roshni uses examples from real life and focuses on explaining the concepts in a way that is easy to understand. Roshni uses a lot of animations and pictures when required and her website makes sure that the students can record and repeat her lectures. At the end of each lesson, she adds a quick recap of complex concepts. She also provides a section on problems and questions that generally arise and provides solutions, making it easy for the students to grasp the concepts.
Her Achievements
Roshni today has a YouTube channel with more than two million subscribers and more than 7,000 video lessons to teach physics, chemistry, biology, math, and DIY science. She has won the Edutuber President award and has a name in the 100 Women Achievers of India in the Limca Book of World Records. She has given inspiring speeches in prominent shows, such as TEDx Talks and SEE Talks.

Where a lot of women struggle to teach their children, she has helped millions of mothers by educating their children free of cost. Roshni Mukherjee has set an example for girls and women across the country by doing one of the most difficult tasks - providing quality education to all for free. With more women like Roshni Mukherjee in India, the country can look at reaching new heights of literacy. She is the demonstration of the quote ‘good people do good without expecting anything in return’.
