'The industry’s perception of women has changed over time. I think it is a beautiful time for women to start something new, we just have to believe in ourselves,' says Aashita Chadha, Co-founder and CFO, The KariGhars.
The KariGhars journey began when Aashita and her husband Abhishek decided to build their dream home, but what ensued was far from what they had ever imagined. Their experience and process turned out to be a nightmare. 'Vendors would stop midway, no timelines were followed, and they would stop answering our calls.' This motivated Aashita to take matters into her own hands and design her home herself. During the process, she noticed that interior designing needed a consolidated level of professionalism and accountability, which was sorely missing.
Aashita had just delivered a baby and was about to re-join the 9 to5 trope, to her surprise post their housewarming party, many of their family members, friends as well as her boss reached out to her for their designing needs and encouraged her to start something in this space. 'I always wanted to start something of my own, where I would have the flexibility to balance home and work, and this was my chance to venture into a creative space.'
Hailing from the corporate IT industry, and with no design degree, the couple began work towards starting the KariGhars. Based in Bengaluru, Aashita Chadha along with her husband Abhishek Chadha launched The KariGhars in 2010 with no major seed capital apart from investing in a simple website. Today this interior design firm has consistently grown at a rate of 100 per cent CAGR since its inception.
For the KariGhars team, every detail in design must have a purpose, must reflect your personality and must be beautiful. 'We wanted to bring in professionalism into an art form such as interior design. Our motto from the very beginning was to achieve client satisfaction, making sure that they are having a pleasant experience every step of the way – using top-notch material that is durable and sustainable, maintain strict timelines and add to that, a lifetime warranty for products used.'
The unique selling point of The KariGhars comes from the originality of designs and the quality of raw materials used. 'For me ‘form follows function’, always. I don’t believe in creating spaces that just look good, I am a firm believer in making the space accessible and functional and creating a design that will have a positive impact on my client’s wellbeing. With the right blend of aesthetics and ergonomics for homes and kitchens, we deliver interiors that reflect one’s style.'
