When you’re trying to balance the speed and volume of the fashion cycle along with your business goals, it might appear challenging—unless you are Anita Dongre. She is India’s most-loved designer, a changemaker with a heart for sustainability who believes in empowerment through fashion. As a visionary, Anita was one of the first designers to discuss and practice conscious fashion before it became the need of the hour.
For more than two decades, she has been on a mission to support the growth and welfare of artisans through collaboration that goes beyond fashion seasons. From reviving several embroidery techniques, promoting handloom weaving, and championing eco-friendly practices, her work embodies a sense of responsibility towards the artisans and their communities. In conversation with Her Circle CEO and EIC Tanya Chaitanya, the designer reflects on her journey of building a fashion culture with purpose.
