With sustainability as the focal point for the month of June 2022, we, at Her Circle, strived our best to keep things at our covershoot as eco-friendly as possible. The brands that supported us on the fashion front played a huge role in not only keeping it sustainable thanks to their brand ideologies but also got our cover women looking and feeling stylish.
Saphed is a Mumbai-based lifestyle and clothing brands that offers a range of home textiles and apparel in the most buttery soft 100 per cent linen fabric. Made from the flax plant (which needs less water and can be fully used to make linen), the fabric is one of the more sustainable yet comfortable fabrics available. “It’s highly absorbent, versatile and comfortable. Being a natural fibre, it significantly uses less water to grow, thus having lower environmental impact. It’s texture ages beautifully and gets softer with every wash. We were looking for a material beyond cotton, thus linen found its way to us, creating a sustainable way of life,” says Saphed’s founder Shirin Salwan.

However, just a sustainably-made fabric wasn’t the goal for the brand. The longevity of their product was equally important. “The idea was to create products that last a long time and age beautifully, that are low maintenance and do not rely on heavy-duty chemicals to care for and can be hand-washed/machine washed and are biodegradable so they won’t end up in a landfill somewhere after use,” explains Salwan.
