With sustainability as the focal point for the month of June 2022, we, at Her Circle, strived our best to keep things at our cover shoot as eco-friendly as possible. The brands that supported us on the fashion front played a huge role in not only keeping it sustainable thanks to their brand ideologies but also got our cover women looking and feeling stylish.
Founded by Rebecca Reubens, Baka Jewelry follows a brand ethos that imbibes eco-design and holistic sustainability. The brand uses up-cycled, repurposed, recyclable and renewable materials to create their jewellery, which is made locally by skilled craftsmen. Their designs are made to last, with the highest attention to quality. The brand extends its sustainable practices even to its packaging, which is made of upcycled paper, which goes on to be covered with carbon paper and foam sheets–both of which cannot be recycled otherwise. Their jewellery boxes are made by women artisans, providing a source of livelihood and empowerment for them. Baka’s shopping bags, too, are upcycled, using waste flex sheets.

The brand’s bamboo-based collection sees an array of designs made from gold plated recycled brass, silver and bamboo. Whereas, the Avani collection is a unique, sustainable take on the use of real tiger claws in jewellery or as a talisman. Baka’s faux tiger claws are made from hand-cut gemstones, making them eco-friendlier than the real claws.
