According to Invest India, India is among the world's largest producers of Textiles and Apparel, with the domestic textiles and apparel industry contributing to five per cent of India’s GDP and 12 per cent of the country’s export earnings. With an increasing number of new and innovative clothing brands out there, clothing in India is an ever growing market. That said, there are a few Indian brands that have stood the test of time and have innovated to stay relevant through decades. Here’s a look at few of these!
Siyarams
With their television advertisements throughout the years, everyone instantly remembers the “Coming home to Siyaram” jingle. While the tagline still stays the same, the brand still remains one of the biggest when it comes to clothing in India, and has expanded its clothing line from just menswear formals to now womenswear, as well as a casual brand under its umbrella.

Raymond
One of the most well-known brands, Raymond was established in 1925, and soon became a brand that makes one of the finest suiting fabrics and suiting garments. Today, the brand also makes home furnishings, womenswear as well as wedding wear. More so, it still remains one of the most trusted brands for suitings in the country.

Nalli
A brand that mothers and grandmothers swear by for their authentic and luxurious silk sarees, Nalli has been around since 1928, in India’s pre-independence phase. The brand started out with silks and traditional sarees and didn’t take long to become a household name. Today, the brand has spread its wings not only to include all kinds of sarees under its brand but has also expanded overseas to countries like Dubai, UK, USA, Singapore and Canada.

Fab India
Founded in 1960 with the aim to market the diverse craft traditions of India, the brand initially exported home furnishings. Slowly expanding to clothing, beauty, handcrafted jewellery and even food, Fab India has now become synonymous with Indian clothing, preferred by many for an authentic dose of Indian fashion. A majority of the brand’s textiles include handwoven cotton, silk and wool, sourced locally from textile craft communities.

Arvind
Arvind started its first textile mill back in 1897 and started manufacturing saris, dhotis and other apparel as a part of its swadeshi movement during pre-independence India. The brand slowly ventured into the world of denim, textile exports, and today, has had Better Cotton Initiative’s (BCI) first bale produced from India, from the Arvind farm project in Akola.

Amrapali
While this one isn’t a clothing brand, it’s worth mentioning as it has been one of the oldest and better trusted Indian jewellery brands since its incorporation in 1978. Mainly focusing on Indian jewellery crafts, the brand also operates a museum of Indian jewellery in Jaipur, India's First Museum for Jewellery and Jewelled Objects.

A company that entered the Indian market as a small operation of Indian spun cotton yarn dip-dyed by hand, has transformed as one of the leaders in the country’s textile industry today. The brand now specialises in hone linen as well as textile production now.
